In recent years, and in the very last few months in particular, Artificial Intelligence has experienced an extraordinary evolution, profoundly revolutionizing several industries crucial to the contemporary economy.

With incredible advances in machine learning, natural language processing, and robotics, AI has demonstrated enormous potential in process optimization, data analysis, and complex problem solving. This exponential growth has attracted the attention of governments and international organizations, as well as the corporate and industrial worlds, leading to the formulation of laws and regulations to ensure ethical and responsible use of these new tools, just as happened a couple of decades ago with the advent of the Internet and digital.

An important step forward in the regulation of artificial intelligence was the introduction of the AI Act by the European Union, which was passed recently: this regulation was designed precisely to set clear rules on the use and commercialization of AI in various sectors. The AI Act focuses on protecting the fundamental rights of citizens, ensuring transparency and accountability in AI implementation, and addressing challenges related to automation and algorithmic governance.

AI has shown enormous potential in healthcare and medicine, and this is what we are researching through our EU-funded projects

Machine learning algorithms can analyze huge amounts of medical data to identify patterns and trends useful for more accurate and timely diagnosis, as well as improve the shared management of information and digital medical records across different hospitals.

 

AI for finance and investment

In the financial world, AI is being used to analyze market data and identify complex patterns that help investors make more informed decisions: this is what happens, for example, with our thematic data, which is useful for providing up-to-date information on the hot topics of the moment and the exposure of companies being invested in to those topics, or with ESG data on companies’ sustainability scores.

Not surprisingly, our company FinScience recently saw its thematic data added to Nasdaq Data Link‘s international platform.

In the logistics and supply chain sectors, AI optimizes the flow of goods, reducing waiting times and operating costs. 

The energy world is abuzz with new alternative and renewable power solutions, which often combine with the transportation theme, resulting in incredible pilot projects such as a new hydrogen-powered railroad, which we followed first hand again with Aramix.

 

AI for agriculture and food production

It seems incredible to think that even such an “analog” and concrete field is being impacted by AI: The agricultural sector is changing as algorithms enable farmers to make informed decisions about irrigation, fertilization and crop management; not only that, AI-guided drones can fly over fields and collect aerial data to identify issues.

In the food industry, AI is being used for quality control, optimizing production chains and formulating new foods.
